Hermann Scheer's ideas live on

Bonn/Berlin 14 October 2010

We mourn the death of Hermann Scheer, a remarkable man and politician. Hermann Scheer, President of EUROSOLAR, the European Association for Renewable Energy, General Chairman of the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE), Holder of the Alternative Nobel Prize and Member of the German Parliament, died in Berlin on 14 October, aged 66. All of us are deeply shaken by his sudden death.

Hermann Scheer's life was full of many notable achievements. It is thanks to him that exemplary progress was made leading towards the renewable energy future and worldwide to an environmentally sound energy supply without coal and nuclear. His firm goal of accelerating the shift away from fossil fuels is becoming reality because he was able to convince and inspire many by his wealth of knowledge, his logical thinking and his ability to spark enthusiasm.

Hermann Scheer's thoughts and plans live on because he succeeded in turning them into tangible results and experiences. He expressed them in his book "Der energet(h)ische Imperativ", released only a few days before he died. Hermann Scheer was a man of vision, bold and fearless in channeling his energy into the undaunted pursuit of his life's work. Building on what he achieved EUROSOLAR and the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) will continue his work as he would have wished.
