Poland took the first big step toward wind energy. Poland's first Offshore Wind Act is expected to put the country, which still has over 70% coal-fired power, on the path to renewables. Swedish researchers have developed more energy-efficient perovskite light-emitting diodes (Perovskite LEDs). According to projections, 15% of the world's electricity consumption could be saved if the new type of lighting were used everywhere. The Swedish LEDs are not only cheaper and more environmentally friendly, but can also be used in solar cells. However, the technology is still in its infancy.

The EU is switching to greener bio-energies - or so they claim. Instead of coal, it is now to be wood pallets. But nature conservation regulations are being loosened for the extraction of the new hip bioenergy source. The wood pallets industry is causing massive deforestation.
