Storage conference biggest event at which experts swap ideas

Berlin, November 25, 2010

With nearly 600 attendees from 41 countries the International Renewable Energy Storage Conference (IRES) turned into the biggest information exchange platform existing in this form. Organizers are EUROSOLAR and the World Council for Renewable Energy in cooperation with EnergyAgency.NRW. As it shot to such prominence, IRES would again take place in the coming year said Irm Pontenagel, managing director of EUROSOLAR.

Directed by scientific conference chair Professor Dirk Uwe Sauer (RWTH Aachen University) experts from Germany and abroad discussed the technologies, available and in development, for storing energy generated from renewable resources at the Seminaris CampusHotel Science & Conference Center for three days. Alongside 90 presentations, the participants engaged in a lively exchange on the rapid advance of energy storage technology worldwide.

The fifth IRES conference was dedicated to the three main themes of electrical storage technology, economic aspects of storing energy from renewable resources and heat storage. Researchers, scholars, scientists, representatives from companies and energy experts gave many lectures on specific subjects.

On the opening day Ernst-Christoph Stolper from the Ministry for Environment of North Rhine-Westphalia had stated: "The development of energy storage technology advances rapidly. I am not sure if the development of the legal and economic framework conditions is presently keeping pace with the technological advance encountered." Managing director of EnergyAgency.NRW Lothar Schneider, said: "Many storage technology products have been marketable long since. We want to encourage more companies to follow the good examples and to invest in this future of technology."

The IRES conference series began as the brainchild of Hermann Scheer, recipient of the Right Livelihood Award and author of "Der Energet(h)ische Imperativ" who died on 14 October.

The presentations given at the conference will be released as a CD-ROM in December and can be ordered from www.eurosolar.org. In the next few days all participants will receive the details to activate the their online access to the conference documentation.
